Has anybody else seen SW3? I was at the screening last night and all I can say is that he finally got one of the prequels right and I think this one will have legs! Too bad they had to make Anikin such a nice kid in the first one, because it is hard to accept him as the nasty guy he turns into in this episode!!

Not close enough for screenings here and am not a Star Wars fan (except when it comes to selling tickets).
I still think Star Wars will be like all the other movies this summer..2 weeks and time for a new movie. With so many movies out these days, it's difficult for a movie to have legs - but I am using my small town as a guideline. |

Normally I would agree, I just think this is the SW film that will bring folks out. The first two we a dissapointment, but this one is sure to please. But we shall see...

Several reports I have heard is that Lucas finally got one right. This one doesn't have the stench of the previous two.

It could be the best Star Wars ever but it has a specific fan base which will see the movie within the first two weeks. Again, I am looking at a small town where that fan base isn't as big as bigger markets due to demographics. National grosses or reviews never seem to fall in line with mine.

Jason even for your small town won't they make you hold on to it for 8 - 12 weeks?
|

I'm a little smaller than Jason, and 3 maybe 4 weeks tops for me.
Heck, I've been churning most first run films out in 2 weeks. |

I've been told that they want 4 weeks going in but will be understanding if it drops off in smaller towns after week 2 or 3. Lately, the film companies have been very good about contract dates and terms - with Disney being the exception (although there is a glimpse of hope while they struggle).
I am thinking Fox will allow Star Wars into Mr & Mrs Smith since they allowed 13 day dates on Kingdom into Star Wars. Even WB did that for House of Wax. Maybe even follow up The Smiths with Rebound or Fantastic Four. |

Saw the film this past Tuesday and I would have to say that by far this one is the best of the three. Also, the viewing I went to was in digital using a Christie DLP and I was very impressed. The image was clear and crisp and was projected on a 30' x 70' curved screen. Even spoke with a TI engineer who said that TI is actively working a business model that will hopefully get things moving a little quicker in the switch over from film to digital. He said that their model would be freindly to small and large theatres as far as the cost of the equipment. Basically the studios would subsidize the cost through their savings on the production side. He said that Buena Vista, Sony Pictures, and Warner Bros. had signed on and that a few of the others are expected to soon.

And who's going to pay for the team of TI engineers that must be present to keep the digital projectors running? Guess why there was a TI engineer there for you to talk to.
They are a long way from being half as reliable as a good old film projector. And honestly, they cannot project an image as good as a properly setup 35mm can. Ask anyone who attended the Warner Bro's DLP screening at Showest how reliable they are. And by the way, the studios are supposedly ready to agree to "finance" the DLP's. That is a long way from "paying for". Here's the article that has questionable legitimacy. Studios Don't hold your breath for Warners to deliver your new DLP just yet. |

I understand that my screening was supposed to be DLP - and they had a problem. 20 minutes later they reverted to good 'ol 35mm and the show went on...

the film companies pay for the DLP down here? Not likely, they still even charge us for promotional material, trls and posters. Plus one distributer has major shares in the film processing company.
|

|
Oh yeah, as in Jeffs instance, all current DLP locations receive a "backup" 35mm print of what ever they are running digital. Isn't that comforting?
