How do you think Harry Potter 4 will do?
Fantastic! I thought the summer release was a mistake. That one did less then the two holiday releases they did.
Do you think the PG-13 will hurt it? I know I won't have the schools I did for the 1st and 2nd one, because of the rating.

At this point, after all the miss's we've had, who knows.
Is the cost of gasoline cutting back on folks leisure spending? Probably. Is the threat of a 50% increase in the cost of natural gas this winter going to cause a continued slide at the box office? Who knows, but so far it's not looking real bright. I don't know about the rest of you, but Wallace & Shoes do not deserve the tanking at the box office they have received. If anything, the Pg13 rating of HP4 will probably help somewhat, it won't be considered a "kiddie" film. But I'll wager, it will be the lowest grossing of the series to date, for many reasons. In my town, Fun with Dick & Jane will out gross it considerably. King Kong may very well out do it as well. Granted, most of the film we have been handed of late has been less than good, but the failure of Wallace and Shoes to find an audience I find disturbing. |

I predicted the failure of Wallace & Gromit. Animated films these days need something more than "from the studio that brought you Sharktale and Chicken Run". Not many people around here were familiar with them since they do not appear on Cartoon Network and the claymation style is dead.
November and December look decent on paper but the media is fanning the fire with all the talk about winter heating bills. It is going to be a rough winter and I am afraid there is no end in sight anytime soon. Dick & Jane looks like a winner but King Kong looks boring and lacks familiar stars. Cheaper By the Dozen didn;t need to be made but may do okay. I think Walk the Line will do well. Looney, what about Chronicles of Narnia? |
Well the Narnia trailer sure doesn't do anything for me.
But, I keep hearing that Disney is courting the churches ala Passion of Christ. Sooo, we may be surprised. Hope so, we need a surprise on the upside. My optimism about anything has been dashed some of late. In my town these are the ones I "think" will do business: Chicken Little Zathura HP4 Your's Mine Ours (two weeks & out) King Kong Cheaper 2 Dick & Jane Rumor Has It The Producers I think that with Peter LOTHR's Jackson at the helm of King Kong, we could be very pleasantly surprised. Where oh where is John Hughes, a young Speilberg, Robert Zimeckis, & Chris Columbus when you need them. Chris is doing Rent, which may or may not appeal to my crowd. |

You're an 80's movie guy like me
As good as they were then, I don't think people would come to see Back to the Future, Breakfast Club, etc etc now as they did back then. I am not sure what moviegoers want to see these days, and obviously, neither does Hollywood. |
You may be right, but those films along with most those guys made during that time, stands heads and shoulders above most of the crap we have today.
"It's so sharp I could circumsize a gnat." Come on, who said it & in what movie 80's movie man? No cheating. |
It's definately a John Hughes quote. Hmmm....didn't John Candy say that to that annoying little boy in Uncle Buck? Or was it in...Home Alone? It wasn't Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club or Some Kind of Wonderful. I'm still seeing John Candy. Great Outdoors? |

Since this is an HP thread I heard that HP4 tickets can go on sale today 10/14!
I didn't realize they could regulate when we sell tickets. Hopefully, there will be enough interest in HP4 that people will want to buy advance tickets. A sign posted at boxoffice about "HP4 advance tickets on sale" on 11/4 when Chicken Little is released might be a good idea. Hmm...
Very good Jason.
John Candy in Uncle Buck talking to "Bug" (the nieces boyfriend) when Buck finds them at the campfire. One of the best comedy's of all time. If you sell tickets to HP4, then the movie's not licensed to you, you might have a small problem on your hands. |
I just caught what you said about King Kong, apparently your not watching the same King Kong trailer I am. Boring? |
The first half of the trailer is boring and probably the first half of the movie. Hopefully, the action in the second half will make up for it.
Another movie like this was Titanic. It wasn't good until they hit the iceberg that it got good Okay, I looked at the trailer again. Hopefully, I have misjudged it. But are people going to want to see another King Kong? |
Here's a quote for ya..not sure if it's exactly what was said.
"If that cat had nine lives, it just used them all." |
More John Hughes gold: Christmas Vacation.
"Eddie, can I get ya anything, take you out in the woods, leave ya for dead?" |
Eddie: No, I'm good. (Was that his reply?)
All of JH's movies have memorable quotes. Even though Christmas Story is a classic, I'd rather watch 24 hours of Christmas Vacation I just saw the trailer for Just Friends from New Line on 11/23. That might do well in your town, Looney. |
Just Friends has the "been there done that" feeling to it.
I only have 3 screens, so it's not gonna cut it. For Thanksgiving week, I'll most likely have 3rd wk of Chicken, 2nd of Zathura & 1st of HP4. Unless Chicken tanks after two. |
I lost interest in Zathura, even though it looks great. I'm not sure the public will by into it. I think Walk the Line will be good for a couple of weeks. Let's hope Chicken Little holds in well.
How did everyone predictions turn out.
I ended up playing Line, Potter, and Chicken. Nov was up 12% this year over last for me. |
