Is it me, or does anyone else not get the warm fuzzies when watching these trailers?

Polar Bear turns me off too for some reason I'm not sure of. I thought I was supposed to like it. The I's might have something but I have not played the full trailer yet.

I think Polar Express looks great (the movie and the effects). I think The Incredibles will add more misery to BV. It does not look like something the kids will want to see in my opinion. Spongebob has more potential that I's to me.

Me.

There are a few films which might do a little business here such as Anacondas, Taxi, Resident Evil 2, Friday Night Lights.

Ladder 49 may be a surprise and I am curious to see if DW's strategy to open Shark Tale in October pays off since October is the worst month of the year for me.

Holidays: Ring 2, Spongebob, Polar Express, Kranks, Beauty Shop. Christmas grosses have not been that good year lately. Anyone else?

I think Christmas with the Kranks should do well. Hard to beat Tim Allen where he belongs...in a Tim Allen type comedy.

Beauty Shop is not even playable for me.

Christmas grosses nothing to brag about for me either. Now Thanksgiving on the other hand has been doing gang busters the past couple yrs.

I think that's the Film co's strategy, open the best films @ thanksgiving and play it through New Years. That's fine for the big towns, not for us little guys.

Shark Tales looks too much like Nemo, not sure how that will do. They may be releasing it in Oct because they don't have faith in it to stand up against the holiday on slaught.

Ladder 49 looks good, but BV will play their games and not release it wide enough to inlcude the smaller towns.

Sept almost always is my worst month of the year.

September is usually bad here as well but I offset it by doing a big discount kids show on Labor Day weekend which generates much needed income. We pass out tickets (coupons) to the kids via the school system. I do this several times a year and get a great response.

With Tim Allen you hope you get a Santa Clause and not a Joe Somebody. I do think Kranks will do well though. And I also agree that the movie to watch out for is Spongebob. It may be a year too late but should still do very well.

BV has been way too kind this summer because they have had bombs. I would bet also that they revert to the BV of old after The Village opens. I think Village is going to be a nice hit at the end of the summer.

BV has pretty much always been that way.
Love you in the summer, then "who are you?" during the winter, except thanksgiving-Christmas.

During winter months, they've made many blunders with films aimed right at small towns, and in their infinite wisdom NOT including small towns in the release. Snow Dogs was a huge small town blunder on their part.

My booker foolishly thinks that the generosity that BV has shown trying to get films like 80 Days and King Arthur on the screen will carry over. I disagree. They will always strive to be #1. Just wait until they eventually move up from #5 to #2. We will catch hell as they vie for the top spot. I like them at #5 but let's see if they take 2 week dates on Ladder 49 like they did these summer bombs.

The problem with Ladder 49 being released on 10/8 means, it will not be available to you and I until on or about 11/5. When the 4 week deals start dropping their prints.

Your booker apparently has a short memory or hasn't been around this biz long. Big Grin
Disney's generousity most likely will end with the release of Princess 2.

Booker has been around awhile but doesn't seem to see BV's latest BS due to the pile of BS from before. Some film companies help out mid to smaller markets which I think in turn helps them. Others (like BV) go the opposite route and think we bring them down. But my memory is not short and if they want us to play the duds as a favor, then how about remember the favor beyond the hour after somone books King Arthur, 80 Days, Alamo, etc.

I stopped doing "favors" for film co's a long time ago. It just meant I was gonna get burnt, and they never return said favor.
Their memory is even shorter than your bookers. Big Grin

Remember the Alamo? Moviegoers sure didn't earlier this year.

I replaced Spidey with Catwoman this week. Although I am not high on Catwoman, anything was better than an empty auditorium. Anyone else open Catwoman? How about The Village next week?

My booker advised Bourne over Catwoman. He said Bourne was great and Catwoman will be up for worst movie of the year. Also the $$ for both are almost the same for opening then Bourne lives on and the over all for Catwoman is only double first weekend gross.

So... after all that we went with Bourne. Although we have had inquiries about Catwoman from customers for the last week. We'll see.

I Robot did well but not what I had expected. It did out gross Spidey but Spidey was still doing to good for us to drop for Catwoman. We are doing the Village next week too.

Bourne vs. Catwoman depends on the demographics of your town. Although I would prefer to see Bourne, we have to play what will do the most money.

I am high on Village. I am not sure if the movie will be there but that guy sure has some good trailers to captivate and tease us.
