This is definately a one-week wonder because everyone will be so disappointed. This would have been a better book (if it isn't already).

Well at least this one week wonder is performing out of the gate. At least for me.
Best Friday I've had by a long shot since Spidey opened. I've not seen it yet, but I read several reveiws of Village that said it was the best thing M. Night has done? But I also read the the ending was lame. Gee, didn't he learn from Signs. That was the biggest problem with it. |

We had a great Friday with it too, but I'm thinking it might be like Harry Potter. One really good day and then down hill from there. I think people are going to be disappointed in it. Manchurian Candidate, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing gross wise, but everyone seemed to really like it.

Both the Village and Manchurian doing really well here, although I have heard a lot of comments that Village is quite a disappointment and now thatI have seen it myself I would have to agree. I found the trailer to be more suspenseful than the movie. The "big" plot twist is revealled way too early almost 30-35 minutes before the movie ends instead of being in the last 10 minutes. So your stuck watching this lame conclusion. Oh well, as long as it is making us money.

Unfortunately, I think word-of-mouth will kill The Village after the first couple of days. I hate it when customers ask for a refund when exiting a movie and talk so negatively about a film.
M. Night has great trailers for his movies but is not living up to the expectations of the general public. His cameo in Village was corny. |

Yeah, I've never understood why customers think that they should get a refund just because they didn't like the movie. They act as if we have control over whether or not they will like it. I guess its part of not wanting to accept responsibility for your own decisions.

perhaps we should do the same to the film companies. Couldn't imagine the response we'd get. |

It is understanable if the print is scratched or other performance issues are flawed but not for the content of the movie.
It may not happen too often but there have been times that film companies have lowered rental percentages if a film does not perform as expected or even give decent terms if the film is not expected to open well. You know the ones who help you and the ones who continuosly stick it to you. I like to tell customers who complain after the movie that we have a 15 minute refund policy, meaning they can get a refund if they leave before 15 minutes after start time. Most of the 15 minutes is previews and opening credits. I do not advertise this and have never been taken up on it but it gives me a 'one-up' on those complainers. |

Any others find the sound on the village to be lacking. I had to turn it way up to hear some parts. That is most of the complaints we got on the first day.
Boy dod Bourne drop on week 2. It did less than I-Robot for me. |

Check the can for The Village. There is a letter concerning the sound. It should have been called The Whispering Village.

Dave the print you have of the Village is it a cyan print by any chance?
|
||||
|
My print of Village came with a letter from the director about the sound. The low talking (whispering) is intended to make the other sounds more noticeable or something. I think sudden loud sounds is the only way anyone would be frightened during this movie. Check your can for the explanation.

Ok, Village tanked for me the 2nd wk just like Jason predicted.
Anyone else? |
||||
|
It died here as expected and Collateral opened just as poorly. I think AVP will do okay this weekend and hope Exorcist and Anacondas at least please the audience - whereas Village and Collateral disappointed them.
